Principal's Message

Principal’s Message

Welcome to Burlington Elementary!  It is my sincere honor to serve our community of learners (students, staff, and parents) as your principal.  Our teachers meet in teams each week in order to develop and provide a strong educational foundation for the students based upon the Kentucky Core Standards, student data, and individual needs of the children.  It is not only our goal to assist each child to grow to their fullest academic potential, but to additionally instill the importance of integrity and service to the community.

We are focused on developing a Growth Mindset in every child, so they connect hard work and effort to success.  We work hard to create an environment where students understand the value of learning from their mistakes, and feel free to take risks to increase learning opportunities.  Explaining their thinking is a valuable habit that we encourage and work to cultivate, as it cements new concepts.

We want students to not only challenge themselves academically, but appropriately. We want them to find their passion and spend time in activities that bring joy and a sense of satisfaction. We also want students to have valuable personal down time and treasured family time.  We work very hard at school every day so your child should not have great amounts of homework unless he/she did not use their time wisely during class.  We encourage you to have dinner together as a family, read together each night, play a board game once a week and most importantly TALK as a family!!

Burlington Elementary is a school wide Title I school, which means we receive the Federal Title I grant. These funds are used to benefit all the students in our school. We have 3 full time RTI teachers and 2 full time paraeducators who work with small groups in reading and math to help each of our students work toward our goal of having every student performing at grade level in reading and math at major transition points. Using Title I funds, we have purchased textbooks and technology, and have offered many family involvement activities, such as Family Reading Night, Family Math Night, and Kindergarten Camp. We have Title I parent meetings throughout the school year to obtain your input, and we will also send out an annual survey. Your feedback is important to us.

Parents, join our PTA and become part of the parent leadership within our school.  We look forward to working with you!

Burlington’s School Improvement Plan focuses on raising our students’ academic proficiency.  We, as a school, know we need our partnerships with parents and the community and believe these resources keep us strong.  We encourage everyone to take an active role in their child’s education by communicating regularly with their teacher, attending school events and reading with your child daily.  Together, there is no limit to what we can accomplish!
