An Overview of Blended Learning at OMS
Below is a link to a video that will provide an overview of the blended learning platform being used at Ockerman Middle School this year. We are in our second year of offering this blended learning platform, and are excited to be expanding it to reach more students in the 2017-18 school year.
Blended Learning: An Overview of OMS
While the video above does a great job of providing an overview of the blended learning platform, below is a link to a slightly more comprehensive presention that Mr. Poiry gave last year to parents who were new blended learning and Summit. Feel free to explore it as well:
"Summit Information Presentation" (slides and audio) by Mr. Poiry with detailed information about the 2016-17Summit program.
Grading, Mentoring and PLT Time
Below is a series of links to helpful videos to explain Blended Learning and Summit concepts to parents and students.
1. One of the most frequently asked questions we get from parents is about how grading is handled in a blended learning program. Because we focus on mastery of specific standards and less on numeric grades, we need to rethink how we monitor our students' progress. In a blended learning platform, we can easily check student progress on the standards to see what they have mastered and what they are still developing. This video will explain more about how parents can view what their child is working on and how they are progressing.
"How to Access Your Student's PLP to Check Progress" a short video explaining how to log in & use the PLP.
"Details of Summit Grading" a short presentation on the details of grading within the Summit program.
2. In a blended learning platform, students participate in what is referred to as "PLT Time." Watch this video for more information about this time in their day:
“What is PLT?” a short video explaining what the PLT is and how students use it.
3. Another wonderful aspect of this blended learning environment is that it offers up some time away from direct instruction to allow teachers to meet one-on-one with EVERY student EVERY week! It is called mentoring, and it allows teachers to talk about both personal and educational topics with their mentees. Below is a link to a video that will explain more about it:
"Summit Mentoring" a 15-minute presentation about how mentoring works in the Summit Teams.
Lastly, Summit did provide some great videos of their own to tell you more about its program. These are below:
