Truth & Consequences (7th Grade Drug & Alcohol Prevention Event)

-This is an event we will be doing with our 7th Graders in the hopes of preventing future drug and alcohol use.

-Parents: you are invited to come and participate in the day, as well!

-Students will move through FOUR sessions (not necessarily in this order):

Session A:  Viewing a documentary on Heroin/Drug use.  Parents of addicts will be there to say a few words before/after the video to describe how drug/alcohol addiction affects the whole family.  Students & parents will have an opportunity to ask questions.

Session B:  Question/Answer session with people in recovery.  Each person will give a brief overview of their life in active addiction and their Recovery process, then students/parents will have an opportunity to ask questions.

Session C:  Students will have an opportunity to talk with Guidance Counselors/School Psychologists about the sessions, their experiences with drug/alcohol (by them and/or family members), and any other questions/thoughts/concerns they might have…

Session D:  This is the “Reality” session and will take place in the gym.  Students will be given a scenario; a “bad choice”.  They will then be directed to the appropriate booths.  They might have to see the Principal, the School Board.  They might also have to see the Resource Officer, a police officer (even getting “arrested”), go before a judge, etc.  Other scenarios could take them to a nurse, pharmacist, even the Coroner.
