My name is Chad Derry, and I am going to be your son’s/daughter’s teacher in Social Studies this year. I received my undergraduate degree at Wright State University in Middle Childhood Education in 2003. I then acquired my Master of Education in Middle Childhood Education in the summer of 2004 at Wright State as well. In the spring of 2008, I received my Rank 1 in Education from the University of LaVerne. While in college, I was also on the tennis team where I was first team all conference all four years.
This will be my twelfth year teaching in the education field. My first year of teaching, I was as an eighth grade teacher at Bridgetown Middle School, which is in the Oak Hills School District in Ohio. In Ohio, first year teachers had to pass the Praxis III test. A teacher from the state of Ohio comes in and watches you teach a class for 90 minutes and observes you for numerous criterion. I was observed while teaching a lesson, and I received the highest score in the district out of all new teachers. The past ten years I have taught sixth grade social studies at Ockerman Middle School and thoroughly enjoy the material I cover in class.
I really enjoy working with children, and for the past eighteen summers, I have been a tennis professional. The past ten summers I have been the head tennis pro at Triple Crown Country Club. I have taught students of all ages, and they seem to really enjoy my methodology of teaching. I like to bring an upbeat attitude and am willing to try several ways of teaching to match each prospected tennis players’ need. I have the same philosophy when it comes to teaching in a classroom setting. Students can expect a very positive environment where they will be engaged in activities, games, competitions, group work, and discussions. My philosophy of teaching is that if the students are actively involved while learning they will have a greater chance of remembering the material.
If you have any questions feel free to email me at email@example.com or you can call me at school (282-3240). I look forward to having a great school year with your son/daughter.
