Greetings to all CMS students and families. Welcome to middle school. I hope that you are excited as I am for the new school year.
Social Studies - 6 is a culmination of Physical/Human Geography, Civics & Economics, and World Cultures. The course begins with Physical & Human Geography. Students will examine both in order to discover differences, but also how they are inter-connected. The course progresses to Civics in order to create the next generation of proactive citizens. Students will learn the basics of our government, principles of the United States Constitution, and other forms of government practiced throughout the world. Students will be introduced to Economics to develop an understanding for the connection between economics and government. Students will discover various economic systems used by other nations. Also, they will begin to visualize how the world is truly a "global economy." The second half of the school year will focus on World Cultures as we travel the globe one continent at a time. We will re-examine previously studied disciplines of Social Studies and apply them to our global studies. Our hope is that students develop an understanding for the people and cultures throughout our world.
