Eagles In Action

5th Grade Thriller Performance

The weather kept them inside but they still pulled off a thrilling performance.  Click here to watch the 5th Grade performance of "Thriller."  Thanks Miss Curtis and Mrs. Ahlman for teaching them their moves.

Student E-mail Accounts

Did you know that 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders have a student e-mail account? Your children have been learning to use their state issued e-mail account.  They are to only use their school e-mail accounts for school reasons such as e-mailing a teacher, a classmate about a project, submitting assignments, etc.  Student e-mail accounts meet all federal and state regulations to keep them safe.  Earlier in the year students learned about digital citizenship and online safety to prepare them for this so they know how to stay safe when online.  If you have any questions in regards to student email please e-mail  (Technology Teacher and School Technology Coordiantor).

Curriculum from and was used to teach digital citizenship and online safety to all children Grades 1 to 5.  For parenting information on internet safety please visit

Wellness Policy Update

In 2004, the Child Reauthorization Act of 2004 required every U.S. school district participating in the National School Lunch and/or Breakfast Program to develop & implement a local "wellness policy" by the beginning of the 2006-2007 school year. The KY Nutrition and Physical Activity Legislation required all elementary schools to develop and implement a wellness policy that includes daily physical activity (SB 172 and KRS 160.345).

In August 2013, our SBDM Council agreed by consensus that Burlington Elementary would join the "Alliance for a Healthier Generation" and incorporate a Healthy Schools Program. The Healthy Schools Program provides the school with support in the school's efforts to improve nutrition, physical activity and staff wellness. They provide resources in supporting action plans, aligning policies and access to healthier choices. Our school agreed as a participant to have an active Wellness Committee that meets on a consistent basis and develop an action plan that is aligned with the Healthy Schools Program Framework.
