Principal"s Message

Welcome to Collins Elementary School and to another exciting school year. This is my third year as the Principal at Collins and I am excited about the adventure we are about to begin on for the 2016-2017 school year.

Being an educator in the Boone County Schools for the last 20 years, I know Collins Elementary is rich in tradition, academic focus, and community involvement.  These are just a few reasons I am proud to be a part of this school. As your Principal, I will filter all decisions through one simple question, “Is this what is best for the students at Collins?”  I will work with the faculty and staff to continue to introduce new ideas and programs that are aimed at taking the students at Collins into the 21st Century. Even though the world around us is changing that does not mean we have abandoned old values that have helped create the wonderful environment and rich academics, which are established at Collins.

Kentucky Department of Education Changes Birthday Cutoff for Kindergarten

Kentucky Department of Education Changes Birthday Cutoff for Kindergarten

A change in the birthday eligibility cutoff for Kentucky kindergarteners will take effect in the 2017-2018 school year. The new date for Kentucky students is August 1. Any child who turns 5 years old on or before August 1, can enroll in Boone County’s ½ day Kindergarten Program. This change affects student’s statewide.

Boone County’s Board of Education has a policy, per Senate Bill 24, that allows parents to request early-entrance for kindergarten, but children must exhibit high levels of academic, social and emotional aptitude based on a series of assessments. If a child does meet the necessary requirements for early admission, parents will be charged $3.000.00 tuition for the school year. The process for early-entrance must be completed before the last day of the 2016-2017 school year. Please contact the Boone County Board of Education, Christen Morgan at (859)-334-4466 or christen.morgan@boone.kyschools.us, if you have any questions.
