Boone County Schools Statement on Copy-Cat Threats logo

Boone County Schools is one of many school districts across the country that is being subjected to copy- cat threats of the school tragedy in Florida.  We are working with local authorities as they investigate a recent rash of rumors and threats on our campuses.  Student suspects in each of the cases were immediately identified and apprehended.  They were charged by local authorities and disciplined by their schools.   In each case a thorough investigation was conducted by the school district and authorities.  No student or staff member was ever in danger. Confidentiality laws prevent Boone County Schools from talking about the persons involved or the specifics of the incidents. Boone County Schools will continue to remain on alert, following our safety protocols and working with the Boone County Sheriff’s Department and Florence Police as future issues arise.

Girls on the Run Registration

The Girls on the Run lessons encourage positive emotional, social, mental and physical development.  Participants explore and discuss their own beliefs around experiences and challenges girls face at this age.  They also develop important strategies and skills to help them navigate life experiences. We start with helping the girls get a better understanding of who they are and what’s important to them.  Then, we look at the importance of team work and healthy relationships.  And, finally, the girls explore how they can positively connect with and shape the world.

Physical activity is woven into our program to inspire an appreciation of fitness and to build habits that lead to a lifetime of health.  At the end of each three month session, the girls participate in a Girls on the Run 5k event.  This celebratory, non-competitive event is the culminating experience of the curriculum.  Completing the 5k gives the girls a tangible understanding of the confidence that comes through accomplishment as well as a framework for setting and achieving life goals.  Crossing the finish line is a defining moment when the girls realize that even the seemingly impossible IS possible.

Goodridge AR News

It’s exciting!! It’s thrilling!!

Students will be able to collect AR points during their summer vacation!

This summer, as in past years, the Goodridge library will be open Monday – Friday, from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm* in order for students to take AR tests. In addition, the Boone County Public Library will offer opportunities for students to check out AR books and take tests. Small prizes will be given when students take AR tests at Goodridge. Rewards will be given by the BCPL as well as fun programs offered for summer reading.

The best part of this great news is that students will earn double points for reading by taking AR tests that are reading level appropriate from June 1st through August 5th. Points will be tabulated and students will be rewarded when they return to school for the 2016-2017 school year. This is a wonderful way to offset summer learning loss by reading your way through the summer!

Goodridge Mentoring Program

Goodridge Elementary needs YOU...to come mentor one of our children!  We'd love for you to come and get information on our new "Buddy System", which will be starting this January.  We're looking for adults over 21 years of age who would like to come once a week to play a game, eat lunch with or read a book with a lucky student that they will get to know for the rest of the school year.  No special skills are needed; we just need caring volunteers who can give our students the kind of precious one-on-one time that they need to succeed and grow.  Your time with one child can make a difference that lasts a lifetime!

Would you like more information? Come meet with us and you can ask questions and get information without being asked to commit to the program at that time.  The first meeting will be held at the Goodridge School library on  Tuesday, Nov. 25th from 4:15 to 5 p.m, and again for those who need a different date, on Thursday, Dec. 4th from 4:15 to 5 p.m. (If school is cancelled on either of those days because of inclement weather, we will reschedule and then publicize new dates.)  If you have questions in the meantime, please contact Diane Mabry at diane.mabry@boone.kyschools.us, and she will do her best to assist you.

Parent-Teacher Conference Tips

As a parent, you are your child’s first and most important teacher. You and your child’s school have something in common: You both want your child to learn and do well. When parents and teachers talk to each other, each person can share important information about your child’s talents and needs. Each person can also learn something new about how to help your child. Parent–teacher conferences are a great way to start talking to your child’s teachers. This tip sheet suggests ways that you can make the most of parent-teacher conferences so that everyone wins, especially your child.

Kindergarten Registration

Goodridge Elementary will be hosting its annual Kindergarten Registration on Tuesday, April 1st from 4:30 to 6:30 pm.   Families who have children entering into Kindergarten for the 2014-15 school year should plan on attending. Incoming students must have achieved their 5th birthday by October 1, 2014 in order to be eligible for kindergarten.    Families registering students should bring the following to the registration:  Proof of Residency in Goodridge School District (Utility Bill or Rental Lease), Certified Copy of Birth Certificate and Social Security Card.  Prior to beginning school, students must provide a current Kentucky Immunization Certificate. Shortly thereafter, a student must have a current School Physical, Eye Examination, and Dental Screening.

Families are encouraged to bring their incoming kindergartener and allow at least half an hour for the registration and accompanying activities.
