Welcome to the 2013-2014 school year! I would like to take a minute to introduce myself: my name is Shannon Kay and this is my 7th year teaching and my 4th year teaching students with Autism. I have both my undergrad degree and my Master’s degree from the University of Cincinnati. I also attended a monthly Autism CADRE for the state of Kentucky to help better build classrooms for children with specific learning needs. We have 2 wonderful assistants in our classroom- Barb has been with the district for 15 years now and this is Dawn’s third year working in our classroom. Both Dawn and Barb are highly trained and are wonderful with the students!
Our classroom is a highly structured learning environment and we try our best to keep our routine consistent. We have large group and small group daily as well as individual work stations to meet each the needs of each child. In our room this year we will have both preschool and kindergarten students- the kindergarten students will be on a general education teacher’s homeroom class list and will spend a portion of their day, if possible, in the general education setting with an assistant or myself to help meet their individual needs. Preschool students have lunch at school; however, the kindergarten students do not. Each class does have snack and use we reinforcement’s daily- so anything you send in from the donation list will help greatly!
Please look through this packet, fully fill-out all the paperwork, and return it to school ASAP. We are looking forward to this school year, enjoying your children and working together as a team! Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns!
