Principal's Message

Dear Students, Parents and Family Members,

            It is hard to believe that summer is almost over and the new school year is beginning.    I hope you have had enjoyable summer!  If this is your first year attending Ockerman Elementary School I would like to personally welcome you to the Ockerman family.    For those families returning to Ockerman, we look forward to seeing you and continuing our partnership with you again this school year.  Students, we have missed you over the summer and cannot wait for you to return! 

            Parents and family members, I have a few things to share with you before the school year starts.

If you are bringing your child to school on the first day of school, please make sure that you park only in designated spots at Ockerman Elementary. When our parking lot is full, parking is available at the middle school next door in designated spots only. There is no parking in the bus loop at Ockerman Middle School.  On Thursday and Friday of this week you will be permitted to walk your child to their classroom.  Beginning on Monday August 17th, you will need to say your goodbyes in the front hallway. 

Starting time will continue to be at 8:40 a.m.  Students may be dropped off any time after 8:00 a.m.  Any student who will be eating breakfast will need to be in the cafeteria no later than 8:30 a.m. The school day ends at 3:40 p.m. Morning Kindergarten ends at 12:03 p.m.  Afternoon Kindergarten begins at 12:03. If you are picking your child up from school please make sure that you arrive not later than 3:20 to sign them out.  Please be prepared to show your ID each time you come to pick up a child from school.

Once you have reached the link, input your address and grade level and it will tell you the bus number and what time the pick-up/drop-off will occur.  We will also have several people available to help navigate you through this process at Open House, which is Monday, August 10 from 5-7pm. 

            Open House is a time for you and your child to meet his/her new teacher and see the classroom.  This will also be an opportunity for you to pay school fees, receive information on the parent portal through Infinite Campus, join PTO, and find out about some of the activities at Ockerman.  This year’s student fees will be $65.00 payable by cash or check.  The cafeteria will also be open to deposit money into your child’s lunch account.  Open House is an informal meeting time, so please feel free to stop in anytime between 5pm and 7pm.  We will have several staff members in the front hallway to assist you in finding your child’s homeroom. 

            School supplies lists for the 2015 - 2016 school year have been sent to the local stores, are also posted on the school website and hard copies are available in the front office.  You may drop off school supplies on the evening of Open House if you do not want your child carrying everything in on the first day of school.    

 We consider it an honor to work with your child during the 2015-2016 school year.  We consider ourselves to be very fortunate to have so many caring families that want the best education for their students in these early developmental years.  We greatly appreciate your collaboration on a daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly basis.  We are continuing to develop different ways we can communicate with you to let you know about upcoming events and announcements.  Throughout the year we will continue to update our website,  We are also using the OES Facebook page to update parents.  If you would like regular updates on your Facebook account, please don’t forget to “like” us.  You may also follow us on Twitter at @OESRockets.

I am including a few dates that will be helpful to you before the start of school, but you will receive a complete list of school dates in the Student Handbook. 

  • August 10 – Open House 5-7pm

  • August 13 – First day of school for the student


In order to volunteer in any capacity at Ockerman Elementary or to act as a chaperone please remember that a current background check form must be on file in the school office.  Background checks are good for two years. The cost for the background check is $10.00 payable by cash or check only.  Background checks applications are available in the main office. Again, the school must have an updated background check form on file in order for you to volunteer in any capacity within the school.  (This includes fieldtrips.) 

I would like to encourage all families to join the school Parent Teacher Organization (PTO).  Membership is $5.00 for a family or individual.  Our PTO is very active and offers a high level of support for the school.  The money from fundraisers over the last several years helped purchase our beautiful new sign, playground equipment, field trip support and many other items that support student learning.   PTO will have a table at open house so please stop in and see them.  They have many opportunities for families to be involved with minimal time commitments to meet any busy schedule.
