TES School Counselor Referral Form

If you are interested in your student meeting with Ms. Strausbaugh, please complete a Counselor Referral form through the below link.  This google form will also allow us to look into creating topic-specific small counseling groups, lunch bunches, and/or classroom guidance lessons.  Please note that we will adhere to the physical distancing recommendations when meeting with students.

Types of Counseling Services available @ TES

Contact Stephanie Strausbaugh for any of the below services.

Individual School Counseling

Individual School Counseling is available to students to address the child’s needs, concerns, and other barriers to learning (e.g., worries, difficulty with peers, family changes, etc.).  These sessions are conducted one-on-one with the school counselor either weekly or every other week (depending on the situation).  These sessions are short-term in nature (typically 8-10 sessions) and are utilized to address any immediate needs.  Individual school counseling referrals for students can be made through the request of a student, parent, or teacher.

North Key School Based Therapy

North Key School Based Therapy is offered to students who would benefit from long-term, more intensive services. TES partners with North Key and we have a part-time North Key therapist on-site who is able to meet with students during the school day.  North Key does bill insurance.  Our School Based Therapist is Lauren Mullins, LPCC.  Please reach out to Stephanie Strausbaugh with any questions about the North Key School-Based Services.

Lunch Bunches

Lunch Bunches are a great way for students to come together and get to know one another or talk about similar topics.  It is also a great way for me to stay connected with our Wildcats.  I am hoping to conduct some book club lunch bunches with students this year!

Small Group Counseling

Small group counseling is offered to students through the school year and is based on student need.  Group sessions will meet weekly, during the school day, for 30 minutes per session and will last approximately 8 weeks.  Small groups will tentatively begin in October for the Fall semester and in February for the Winter semester.  Students are invited to join a group based on parent or teacher referral.  Parental consent will be required before starting a small group.

Classroom Guidance Lessons

Classroom Guidance Lessons are the bulk of what a school counselor does.  The elementary years are a time when students are beginning to develop decision-making skills, communication, and life skills, as well as character values.  There is a strong relationship between academic success and social/emotional learning.  As such, our comprehensive school counseling program incorporates classroom lessons on the following five core social/emotional competencies:

          *Cooperation

          *Assertiveness

          *Responsibility

          *Empathy

          *Self-Control

Classroom guidance lessons will begin with most classrooms and will vary on frequency based on the grade level.  During each lesson, we will discuss the topic (feelings, conflict resolution, character traits, etc.) using various activities.  We strive to make these sessions as interactive as possible to allow students to stay engaged and to empower them to become motivated learners, active team members, creative problem solvers, and kind and responsible citizens.
