Dear Boone County Families & Employees,

We are very blessed to have great people in our school district!  Our families value education and support our schools in many ways and our employees are dedicated to serving our students.  I am shining a spotlight on four employees that have distinguished themselves as an educator by their selection in the Kentucky Teacher of Year awards earlier this year.  Jo Ann Pennington, Art teacher at Conner Middle School and Jessica Gels, virtual teacher at the ACCEL Academy, were all named semifinalists.  Hallie Booth, 8th grade Science teacher at Ballyshannon Middle School, was named KY Middle School Teacher of the Year and a Finalist for the overall teacher of the year award.  Christy Pellerin, of Collins Elementary School, was named a finalist for the 2021 Special Education teacher of the year by the Kentucky Department of Education.  Please take time to personally thank your teachers for their work.

We are proud of the accomplishments of our employees, however, we continue to have a urgent need for additional bus drivers, paraeducators, and custodians and would like to invite people to apply for these positions or others on the Employment Opportunities page of our website.

Our priority is to keep our staff and students safe and our schools open for daily, in-person instruction.  The incidence rate for COVID-19 in Boone County has increased to 28.4 cases/100k population and remains at the high level.  Below is last week’s summary of COVID-19 positive cases and quarantines for our 20,000+ students:

-Week ending 10/29       32 student positive cases           69 student quarantines

-Week ending 11/5        70 student positive cases           118 student quarantines

Across our nearly 4,000 employees, we recorded the following:

-Week ending 10/29        6 employee positive cases         1 employee quarantines.

-Week ending 11/5       13 employee positive cases       0 employee quarantines.

We are pleased to be offering the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine to our families and employees this week at one school site each day of the week.  These sites are Cooper High School, Ryle High School, Conner High School, Boone County High School, and Jones Middle School.  The vaccine is now available for children ages 5-11 and for students, parents, and adults 12 years and older.  Please use this LINK to set up an appointment; more information is also available on our district website.

As approved last month, we will continue to implement all of our layers of safety strategies, including the wearing of a facemask, until the incidence rate of COVID-19 in Boone County reaches the moderate level.  Our Return to School Plan includes the following:

The Boone County Schools currently requires all persons to wear a facemask while inside of all school facilities, unless otherwise exempted, regardless of COVID vaccination status.  All students and employees are required to wear masks while on school district transportation due to federal requirements.  Our school district will adhere to the following masking decisions based on community transmission data from the KY Department of Public Health, which will remain in place until modified or rescinded by the superintendent or the Boone County Board of Education.
