We welcome the Boone County School Districts newest School Board member Carolyn Hankins Wolfe.

Carolyn moved to the Bluegrass state 15 years ago from Virginia. She has served in the U.S. Army and considers her biggest area of impact as her many roles of service with the Parent Teacher Association at North Pointe Elementary School. She served as Vice President of the Ways and Means committee, Secretary of the 14th District PTA, Vice President of Field Services and most recently as President of the North Pointe PTA.

She has served her community as a proud member of the Boone chapters of the Daughters of the American Revolution and is the co-chair of the American 250 Committee.

Carolyn, her husband Scott live with their children in the Hebron area. Both their daughters attend Boone County Schools.

Maria Brown grew up in Boone County and graduated from Ryle High School in 1996.  She graduated from the College of Mount St. Joseph in 2000 and completed her doctoral degree at the University of Cincinnati in 2009.  Maria is an Assistant Professor of Biology at Mount St. Joseph University.  She has been married to her high school sweetheart Richard for 18 years and they have three children at Longbranch Elementary and one child at Camp Ernst Middle school. Maria completed the Governor’s Commonwealth Institute for Parent Leadership in 2011 and has been an active volunteer in the Boone County schools.  Maria is passionate about the power of education and enjoys her unique K-16 perspective. Maria is excited and honored to have the opportunity to continue to be a part of the Boone County Board of Education.

Jesse Parks is from Ohio.  He is a graduate of the University of Northwestern Ohio in Lima.  In his career he has managed large franchise automotive dealerships and operated automotive sales in three states.  He is a single parent.  He and his daughter have lived in Boone County for seven years. 

Prior to being on the Board of Education, Mr. Parks was a parent member on New Haven’s SBDM council, President of New Haven’s PTA, and on the council for New Haven’s Family Resource Center.  Mr. Parks understands the important role our public schools play in our students and families lives.  Jesse Parks is honored and excited for the opportunity to serve in this role on the Board for Boone County Schools.

Mrs. Cindy Young lives in Florence, Kentucky with her husband and their two children. She attended Northern Kentucky University and worked in medical billing before becoming a full-time wife and mother. A decision greatly supported by her husband. She home schooled her daughter, who is now taking courses at Gateway Community College. Her son began preschool in the Boone County School District and is currently a junior at the Ignite Institute and a member of the Boone County Rebels swim team. With her children well established in their education, and the awareness of the school board’s impact on the educational curriculum of its students, she made the decision to become actively involved in the full range of responsibilities of the Boone County School Board. She accepts this responsibility with humility and the desire to make a meaningful contribution to the future education of our children in becoming wise and productive citizens of this country.

Karen Byrd is beginning her 27th year of serving the Boone County Schools as a School Board Member.  During that time she has been elected Chairperson of the Board 6 times.  Her list of accomplishments include being appointed to a 4 year term to serve on the SCAAC by then Governor Ernie Fletcher.  Ms. Byrd has served a three year term as NKY Regional chair for KSBA followed by a three year term as a KSBA Director at larger and was just re-elected to serve another three year term on the KSBA Board of Directors as a Director At Large. In 2021, Ms. Byrd was ratified by the KSBA membership to become President Elect of the Association.  Ms. Byrd is honored to be named a KY Colonel in 2021.  She has been a Boone County resident for over thirty three years, a Tennessean by birth and a Kentuckian by choice!
