Math Announcements
  • Updated 7/22/19 - Unit 1 - Numbers

Welcome Back!   Welcome to the ShireFamily!

GoMath Textbooks have been handed out and the framework for the class will begin to take shape.  A typical day will involve a bell-ringer activity or problem-solving situation, varied lesson delivery (partner activities, small/large group discussion, individual instruction and guided practice, and homework preparation).  Adjustments will be made based on the needs of the students.

Students have also been assigned to a Google Classroom.  Here they will have access to many of the assignments for math class: a link to follow the Google Slide Presentation for the unit, Google Quiz (50 Points) for each unit, various tasks and instructions, etc.

Students will also be tasked to complete a few assignments for each unit with a fairly user-friendly resource at  Here, students are given a traditional handout worksheet to work on and with and asked to enter their answer into software for immediate feedback.  The programs allows them to make corrections until they show mastery of the material.

Our first unit is Numbers.  The Unit contains three modules: Integers, Factors and Multiples, and Rational Numbers.  Students and parents can expect that this unit will begin on Monday 8/16/2019 and last approximately three weeks.  We will use various resources for instructions and practice but the majority of the work will come from our text.  Study guides are typically assigned 1 week prior to the assessment but new material may still be introduced; this will allow for students to prepare adequately for the unit assessment.
