Dear Boone County School District Parents and Guardians,

Please be advised that at the end of the 2025 Legislative Session, the Kentucky Legislature adopted SB 181. This new legislation requires that all electronic communications by school district employees and volunteers with any student only occur through district-approved, traceable communication platforms. The platforms which are approved by the district are listed below. Please note that this law’s definition of electronic communications is very broad, and includes e-mail, instant messaging, video conferencing, telephone communications, and social media.  It encompasses any form of communication that utilizes electronic devices, systems, and networks to send or receive or store information.

The following are Board approved Traceable Communication Platforms:

  • The Boone County Schools, KY app/Apptegy

  • Boone County School District email (pending Board approval 8/14/25)

  • Infinite Campus Messenger (pending Board approval 8/14/25)

  • Canvas (pending Board approval 8/14/25)

  • Edgenuity (pending Board approval 8/14/25)

  • District Google Workspace – Doc/Sheets/Slides/Forms/Classroom/Meets (pending Board approval 8/14/25)

  • GoGuardian/Peardeck (pending Board approval 8/14/25)

  • Kami (pending Board approval 8/14/25)

Under this new law, District employees and volunteers must only communicate with students through the district-approved communications platforms. The law does allow communications outside of these platforms but only if: the student is an immediate family member; or if the parent/guardian of the student has signed a District-approved written consent form which is kept on file with the student’s school.

BCSD Board Policy Consent Form can be found on the district website under For Parents. *This form must be completed by all parties and submitted to your student’s school for approval.
