Did you know that Jones Middle School has the state's only Middle School Mariachi Program?

They recently played a concert to showcase months of hard work and growth from students who started the school year with little to no experience in mariachi music. Through learning traditional instruments, rhythms, and performance practices rooted in Mexican musical heritage, these students have built a program that celebrates culture, collaboration, and musical excellence.

The mariachi ensemble performed alongside the school’s concert bands, creating an evening that blends traditional band selections with the vibrant energy and rich sound of mariachi music. Guests were treated to lively melodies, dynamic rhythms, and performances that highlight both the students’ dedication and the expanding diversity of music education in the region.

The Truth and Consequences program is designed to educate 7th-grade students about the dangers of drug and alcohol use while emphasizing prevention. During the scenario, students were placed in a situation where they had to navigate the consequences of a poor decision by reporting to key individuals they would encounter in real life, including school administrators, police officers, emergency services, and coroners.

The interactive “reality” component creates a lasting impact thanks to the dedicated individuals who volunteer their time each year. This powerful experience gives students the opportunity to hear firsthand from community members about the life-altering effects of substance abuse.
