Today we honor and celebrate our school nurses on National School Nurse Day, May 6, 2026. Our nurses are an integral part of our schools! Thank you for your dedication to our students, families and the community. We are so very grateful to have such wonderful, kind, and caring school nurses.

Our Human Resources Department recently hosted a career fair for the district. Thank you to all of our departments and schools that participated and thank you to everyone that stopped by. If you did not have a chance to stop by you can click on Employment at the top of the page.

The barbers from Ace of Fades stop by Boone County High School today to provide some free hair cuts prior to prom! The stylists from Blush Salon will be providing formal stylings tomorrow for some of the young ladies.

Jones YLD team took a community service field trip out to local Equistrian Therapy ranch called New Day for the second time this year to do community service work. Students helped move large hay stacks from the barn to help feed the horses, while we also had students help clean the pastures for the horse to roam. Thanks so much New Day for all you do for our students and allowing us to come out and help clean up!

Just before Spring Break our Family Resource Centers hosted a Preschool Resource Fair at Ockerman Elementary School. The event gave families a chance to connect with local early childhood education agencies, explore community resources, receive free, developmentally appropriate learning materials, and learn how to enroll their children in Boone County preschools. There was a petting zoo for families to enjoy too!

Just before Spring Break the students at Thornwilde Elementary School were treated to performances by Steel Appeal. Steel Appeal is a steel drum performance group based in Campbellsville, Kentucky. Students were taught the history of steel drums, shown how they work and some students even had an opportunity to play steel drums!

Thursday March 19th from 5pm-7pm is your last chance to see the professionally curated exhibit, Anne Frank: A History for Today at Ballyshannon Middle School.

The exhibit is entirely student led and operated and explores the life and writings of Anne Frank, as well as greater themes in the Holocaust. The students of Ballyshannon have created additional resources that center around the theme of Hope and Resilience. There is no cost to admission, and the event is open to the public and appropriate for ages 12 and above.

The Truth and Consequences program is designed to educate 7th-grade students about the dangers of drug and alcohol use while emphasizing prevention. During the scenario, students were placed in a situation where they had to navigate the consequences of a poor decision by reporting to key individuals they would encounter in real life, including school administrators, police officers, emergency services, and coroners.

The interactive “reality” component creates a lasting impact thanks to the dedicated individuals who volunteer their time each year. This powerful experience gives students the opportunity to hear firsthand from community members about the life-altering effects of substance abuse.

The Florence Elks Lodge provided all 1st grades at Yealey Elementary free books. Students school-wide also celebrated Read Across America with dress-up days. Enjoy the pictures below. Thank you Florence Elks Lodge!

Last night Steeplechase Elementary put its students' artwork on full display! There were murals, paintings, ceramics, and sculptures! Every student had a professionally framed piece of art on display that was available for purchase with a portion of the proceeds going back to the art fund at Steeplechase for more projects and supplies.

Ockerman Elementary families had the opportunity to go back in time for an adventure packed with dinosaurs, literacy, interactive activities last night.

The night included scavenger hunts, dinosaur digs, story time, crafts, an inflatable planetarium and volcano activities. Students rotated through stations across the building, completed their Dino Expedition Maps, and participated in engaging learning experiences designed to bring reading to life.

Gray Middle School hosted a Reality Store experience for its 8th grade students. Through this mock community simulation, students made meaningful real-world connections while navigating everyday financial responsibilities. Each student received a personalized scenario that included a set salary and was tasked with budgeting for essential living expenses, strengthening their decision making and financial planning skills. Business students from Ryle High School supported the event by serving in the roles of various community agencies.

No school on Monday (2/16) in observation of Presidents' Day!

The School Resource Officer assignment is a distinctive role within the law enforcement profession. These sworn officers serve in a three-part capacity; acting as informal mentors or counselors, law educators, and law enforcement professionals to support the students and communities they serve. As valued members of the educational environment, they play an essential role in maintaining school safety and merit the continued respect and support of the public.

Thank you to the Boone County Sheriff's Office for partnering with the district on our SRO program and thank you to the Florence Police Department for helping keep our schools and community safe.

North Pointe Elementary School hosted Career Day yesterday. The students learned about dozens of careers, including what it is like to be a scientist, an artist, an author, a NFL agent, a conservationist, a fire fighter and an educator!

Kindergarten students at Ockerman Elementary School had a special visitor through the school's Adopt A Class program. Author and educator Chad Caddell brought his children's book, Joey The Can-Do Kangaroo, to read to the students. Mr. Caddell serves on the team of The Nuxhall Foundation and Joey is the official mascot of the Joe Nuxhall Miracle League Fields.

The Family Resource Center and Counselors at Steeplechase Elementary have partnered with Biggby Coffee on US 42 in Florence to spread kindness "one cup at a time." Our students, preschool through 5th grade, are learning about kindness leading up to Valentine's Day. Students are not only learning to be kind, but to share kindness. With this project, they are decorating coffee sleeves with kind words and phrases, along with beautiful drawings, that will then be given to Biggby Coffee to put on their coffee sleeves to give to the community the week of Valentine's Day!
